Staying fit during Christmas can feel like an uphill struggle with all the Christmas parties, family get-togethers and all the chocolates and sweets there to tempt you.

But it doesn’t have to be the end of your diet or the finish line in your exercise routine and there are some tips and tricks available for you to have a fit Christmas.

Christmas is a time when people can often go way over board with their eating habits, chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner and these bad habits make us lethargic and can set us back months in our fitness goals.

It’s important to come up with realistic goals over Christmas, everyone is going to slip from their normal routine and eat things they know they shouldn’t but don't beat yourself up.

Here's five ways to enjoy a healthy and happy Christmas for you and your loved ones. 

1) Focus on your goals and stay motivated
Focus on your goals, don’t skip a workout and don’t binge on junk food. The first days of Christmas with all the tempting treats are always the hardest but when you show willpower early it will be worth it in the end.
2) Short workouts keep you going!
If you are short of time and away from routine you can still do a workout - just do a short intense ten minute workout! It is worth it and you can maintain your fitness that way!
3) If you do cheat, do it properly
You will probably cheat on healthy alternatives at some point over Christmas so when you do, make sure it’s worth it with only the best food available.
4) Family Walks
Walking the dog or just going for a walk together is a great way for everyone to burn calories and enjoy the winter scenery.
5) Moderation
Keep everything in moderation just because there are sweets and chocolate in the house doesn’t mean you have to eat them all at once. Remember that they'll still be available tomorrow, next week, next month even!
