It's Wednesday already and after a couple of people asked me how to tell if something has sugar in it so for you in this weeks What's in it Wednesday - I am going to cover this subject briefly! If you missed last weeks about silicone implants you can read it here

Firstly don't be scared of fat - we need it and unfortunatley the media would have you believe that we really shouldn't eat fat at all!  Fat won't make you fat (within reason!) but sugar definitley will! 

So think again before you reach for that supposedly healthy food or drink - take a look at the label! 

Take a look at the list of ingredients on a label (more on that next week) they are always in order of the largest volume to start with.

So for example and restraining myself from a rant about milk ;-) take a look at this supposedly good yoghurt - just made from milk right?

Hmmm think again....

Yoplait Strawberry Yogurt 125G
Yogurt (Reconstituted Skimmed Milk, Skimmed Milk, Cream, Skimmed Milk Powder and/or Milk Proteins, Yogurt Cultures),Strawberry: 10.8% ,Sugar: 9% ,Carrot Juice ,Modified Maize Starch ,Flavourings ,Stabilisers: Guar Gum, Carrageenan ,Acidity Regulators: Sodium Citrates, Citric Acid
Nearly 10% of this is sugar!! That's 11.25grams!  Go and weigh that out and be prepared to be shocked! Yikes that's nearly 3 teaspoons!  Would you put that in your tea or coffee?! 
What about a good old fashioned cereal?
Can't be anything bad about that right?  Wrong! Well unless you think that having the second ingredient as sugar is good! A 30g serving contains 9 grams of sugar! Wonder why you feel hungry mid morning?
